Cholesterol

What is cholesterol? Cholesterol is not a disease or a symptom. Excess level of cholesterol will bring bad effect to our health. Most people have misconception about cholesterol. Many people think that cholesterol is a disease that should avoid, and most of them think that cholesterol will only affect elders and obese people. This concept is absolutely wrong. Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance or fatty lipid that can be found in the bloodstream and in all our body’s cells (Encyclopedia). Cholesterol it self consists of two kinds the bad one and the good one, LDL and HDL. Cholesterol is needed as an important part of healthy body because it is used to form cells membranes, some hormones in our body, and serve other needed bodily functions (“About Cholesterol”). However, excess level of it can lead us to a major risk of our health such as stroke, cancer, and heart attack. Therefore, we have to know what is caused by cholesterol, the effects of cholesterol, and how to prevent high level of cholesterol.

First of all, cholesterol can be caused eating pattern and genetic. Most common people will think that high level of cholesterol only for obese people. This is a wrong idea, because no matter how big or active we are, we still have same risk to have high level of cholesterol. However, obese people are more like to have high level of cholesterol than slim active people. Smoking cigarette is another important cause. Smoking forces levels of protective HDL level down while producing many other harmful cardio vascular effects. Obesity is another source that can lead to high level of cholesterol. Obese people normally have a high triglyceride that is a form of fat produced by food. People with high triglycerides often have high total cholesterol, high LDL cholesterol and low HDL cholesterol level (“What the Difference”). Diabetes and high blood pressure are also found to be important causes of having high level of cholesterol. People with diabetes and high blood pressure are also likely to have high triglyceride.

Furthermore, having high level of cholesterol does have bad effects on the people. First, it can lead people to the risk of heart attack. This is because too much LDL or bad cholesterol can clog arteries in people bodies. High level of cholesterol will also lead people to stroke. Deposits of cholesterol can build up inside arteries and these deposits can narrow an artery enough to slow or block blood flow. This narrowing process occurs in arteries that nourish the heart. When heart muscle fails to get blood, plaque may rupture and thus causing blood clots. This then results in stroke (“Fats & Cholesterol”). The last effect is cancer. European studies have found out that fats may higher the risk of breast cancer among women. Lately, it is also proven that high level of cholesterol may result in colon cancer, prostate cancer and endometrial cancer. Therefore, people should now be aware of the bad effects of having high level of cholesterol.

However, recent studies have found out that high level of cholesterol can be prevented. First, people should consume more foods low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Using margarine instead of butter will help lower the level of cholesterol because margarine has less saturated fat and thus it is preferable to the stick forms for a heart-healthy diet (“Fats & Cholesterol”). Another way to prevent having high level of cholesterol is to exercise regularly. Exercising, such as aerobic, may help people to burn the fats inside their body and force the heart to pump more often so that it lowers the level of triglyceride inside the body (“Cholesterol in Children”). The other prevention is drug therapy. Drug therapy combined with lifestyle changes helps people with very high cholesterol to reduce heart attacks by 4 percent and cardiac deaths by more than 40 percent. These ways of prevention are believed to helpful to people having a high level of cholesterol.

After knowing the causes, effects and ways to prevent having high level of cholesterol, it is a good idea to have our cholesterol checked at early age. People should also be aware of what they eat by choosing liquid vegetable oil or soft tub margarine, reducing intake of commercially prepared baked goods, snack foods, and processed foods. Therefore, people should avoid having a high risk of death due to high level of cholesterol.

Running head THE SHORTCOMINGS OF PHYSIOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY

In Psychology F6, we examined how biological psychology is more than a body of facts and that it determines our view of human nature. For the most part, it is agreed with philosophical claims and assumptions that all of our thoughts experiences and actions are direct reflections of the activity of the brain, and that everything we do can be traced to physical aspects of the brain. This though has created a debate that is ongoing and complex as there are always issues concerning what the real relationship between the mind and body is. It is important to study the mind, and as we do attempt this, we do it through gaining an understanding of the physiological perspective and inner neuronal workings. I will examine physiological psychology in relation to our class this year, look at the shortcoming of biological psychology in looking at the mind brain relationship matter, and finally conclude with which of the two perspectives that have been argued in the mind brain relationship I agree with. That of Charles Sherrington and Sir Russell Brain.

In the movie, the search for mind we examined what the mind is and what the brain does. We learnt that mind is a process and that what is meaningful to the mind is meaningful to the brain. We looked at the issue of consciousness and unconsciousness and their roles in brain and behavior. (Good, 001). In the movie, is the brain really necessary? We examined cases of hydrocephalus a disease where there is an excess build up of cererbro spinal fluid in the cranium thus forcing brain matter into a ring formation with an enormously enlarged third ventricle in the middle. (Andrews, 17). In the cases we saw in the movie, although they were missing most of their brain, these people were highly intelligent and fully competent although they pretty much do not have brain. Therefore, this leaves us with the question, as the movie title is the brain really necessary. In relation to psych f6, we can ask how the explanations of physiological psychology shortfall in explaining our behavior do.

When studying physiology in Psychology F6 we began by examining neural systems. These systems composed of intricate, minute pathways of neurons, glia cells and synapses work synergistically to convey messages from the brain to body and vice versa. Electrochemical patterns are elicits though stimuli sending messages and creating neuronal excitation or inhibition in turn causing some sort of arousal/ experience. Physiological psychology can explain to us the pathways, why and when the neurons fire, and the pathways of impulses through our brain and body. It can explain to us in detail the action potential of a neuron, how it reaches excitation or inhibition. We learn the importance of neuronal activity in behaviors as it elicits different behaviors through its path. Physiological psychology on the other hand cannot explain issues of brain size and intelligence, and how those with more or less area for neuronal activity (even in those that are directly associated with certain behaviors) differ/come to be/function. We saw this in the movie is the brain necessary where people with limited brain tissue function beyond capacity. It also cannot explain our conscious experience of stimuli to reaction on our interpretation there of. People’s different reaction and behaviors to different situations/impulses/stimuli are also left vaguely explained.

In the second quarter, we examined sensorial systems including vision audition pain, olfaction, and taste. We looked at the differences in the types of systems and their mechanical and chemical components. We looked at reception, transduction and coding, and how each sensory neuron conveys a different type of experience. From a physiological perspective, the sensorial systems can explain the pathways of vision audition and the mechanical and chemical senses. We can see how/why and when we see hear, feel taste, smell, and the interaction of all these events. We cannot learn from physiological psychology why people experience different tastes /likes/dislikes in food, or beverage. Why some people are obsessed with their body and weight and why they eat, or why some people suffer form eating disorders and why some do not. We cannot explain why some react differently to the different stimuli of these systems such as pain noise light. How sense triggers memories/feelings is another issue that cannot be explained.

Next, we examined the motivational systems of sleep hunger, thirst and temperature regulation, their set points, the concept of homeostasis and the triggers and fluctuations around the set points. We learned the limitations to all and advantages, how we physiologically maintain our systems. We can explain why we need to sleep, and they cycles of it. We examined our biological clock and how it works, why we need to rest conserve and sue time to store along with its functions, and the hormones and chemicals in the brain and body that have roles. We can learn why body temperature is important and how it is maintained. Why we get thirsty and the different types of thirst, and the importance of digestion and liking of food. In physiology though we cannot explain why some eat drink or sleep more than others in all cases, or why they enjoy different food fluid or sleep conditions. Why some can function with less sleep than others, why some people experience temperature different, and why some suffer from eating and sleep disorders and other do not. Why some obsess over eating or sleep and others could care less.

Finally we ended the year examining higher cognitive skills and psychological systems When examine these skills and systems such as emotion, learning, memory and language we saw patterns of learning and memory such as habituation and sensitization, the roles of different parts of the brain in language how emotional states are reached and how they effect the brain and body. We also learned about stress, its effects on the brain and body and on the ANS specifically, and the consequential long and short term effects. We learned that emotion is difficult to categorize and identify aside form the actual internal state, the levels and possible eliciting stimuli, and how cognitive interpretations differ for everyone. We cannot learn through physiology why some people do not get stressed or upset in certain situations, why some experience different emotions in different scenarios and the differences in intensity for different people and scenarios. We can see why some learn better or faster than others, why people excel as some skills and some do not. We cannot observe directly differences in memory storage and retrieval, or why some suffer for deficits or damage differently than others. We also can observe the difference in levels of language acquisition, and explain why we can learn language and other species cannot.

The blueness issue debate between Sherrington and Brain represents the difficulty posed when we attempt to understand how mental life can be explained in terms of bodily events. Sherrington questioned our ability to understand the conversion of neural activity into consciousness experience, and Brain believed that our lack of understanding was not a reflection on the relationship between physiology and psychology but rather a function of our state of knowledge. I agree with Sherrington who acknowledges the role of physiology but questions how conscious experience comes about. The sensation of abstract objects, which our brain perceives but our mind, understands, and holds value and feeling towards. I think that we can begin to get “there” from “here” but will never really get there. We can understand the processes but not the actual cognitive appraisal of that process and its outcome, and even that can be questioned as we saw in the movie is the brain really necessary these people had limited basis for physiology and still function in the same manner as most people having the same experience, intellect, abilities, etc. I feel that it will always be a debate, and we will never truly understand the full relationship between the mind and brain physiologically.

Travel lightly and get through Airline Security with ease

I have traveled throughout the United States, from the east coast to the west coast and have been detained because I would have to stand in line to check my baggage or wait at the baggage claim area for my bags. After visiting a friend in California, she taught me how to pack for long and short trips.

I have gone from this (show audience luggage) to this (carry-on bag and backpack). Today, I am going to instruct you on how to travel lightly and ease through security check points.

First, purchase a good carry-on bag that has a back frame with a pull up handle. A small backpack can be purchased at Sears. Most travelers over pack their bags with clothing and other articles that will not be used on the trip. So, number two is not to over pack.

Pack only what you are definitely going to wear, that just in case out, I can guarantee you will not wear. Keep your clothing to a basic color so you can mix and match. I tend to stay with black and white. Take only two pair of shoes, the ones you will wear to the airport and a pair for dress or sport attire. Do not take full size personal care items. Go to K-mart or Wal-mart and pick up travel containers or purchase trial size items. Hotels provide shampoo, conditioners, and soap and hair dryers.

Packing a bag, just don’t through your clothes in the bag, place them neatly. I suggest rolling the clothes, this helps to keep them from wrinkling. Also, it’s easier for security to look through your bags. Always pack your shoes at the top; this is for security reason’s. Airline security are now x-raying shoes. Place all personal care items and jewelry in a plastic zip bag. Same for your undergarments. You do not want security flinging your underwear all over the counter. Pack your purse in the bag. Remember you can only carry two bags past security and this includes your purse. I had the unfortunate experience of having to return to check in because my purse would not fit in the carry-on. Your small backpack is for books, snacks, Bottled water, a camera and wallet.

What you don’t want to carry on the plane or even attempt to carry on are;

Fire arms or ammunition

Hatchets or cattle prods

Martial Arts/Self Defense items

Explosive materials

These are just a few listed items; you can to www.packinglight.com for the entire list of carry-on and non-carry on items.

Getting through security can be a nightmare if you are not prepared. Let us go through a few do’s and don’ts. Remember, your purse are counted as a carry-on item. Do not wear metal items, such as jewelry or belts with a metal buckle. Remove all coins from your pockets. You may have to remove your shoes; I suggest you wear a pair of socks that you were going to throw away. You will be walking through the secured area without your shoes, and who knows what you will pick up on your feet. Your jacket or coat must also be screened, place it in the screening bin. Laptops and cells will also be placed in the bin. Finally, do not talk to the screeners or other staff in the screening area unless they have specifically spoken to you. Remember they have a job to do and need not be distracted. In addition, the person behind who is a rush will appreciate it.

Remember to pack lightly, do not carry non-carry on items, and be prepared for security checks and ENJOY YOUR TRIP!

· How far did the USA economy boom in the 10s?

1. On what factors was the economic boom based?

. Why did some industries prosper while others did not?

Write my Essay on Deph Study USA cheap

essay writing service

. Why did agriculture did not share the boom?

4. Did all the Americans benefit from the boom?

Some of the reasons by which the economic boom started were because of the USA’s industrial strength, the impact of the First World War, the Republican policies, the new industries and the new methods and the state of mind. Some industries prosper much more than others. One example was the moto-car industry, which boomed around the 10s. It all started with Henry Ford, who set up the first moving production line in the world, in a giant shed in Detroit. By the end of the 10s, the motor industry was America’s biggest industry. But the boom of the car industry not only benefited itself, as dozens of other industries, which were required to build the cars, such as glass, leather, rubber, steel, and petrol industries, among others grew all the same.

But the moto-car industry was not the only one to grow. By the 10s skyscrapers were built in New York. There was more new building going on the USA than ever before. Also, like many cars were produced and sold, many more roads had to be constructed. These new roads gave rise to a new truck industry. In 118 only a few homes had electricity, but by 1 almost all urban homes had it. There were virtually no civilian airlines in 118, but by the year 10 the new aircraft companies flew over 16,00 flights a year. In the 10s a new substitute for the silk, which had once been a luxury item reserved for the rich, had been invented rayon. Also, during the 10s movies became a multi-billion dollar business and it was estimated that a hundred million cinema tickets were sold per week.

As I have already mentioned, almost all the industries of America boomed and grew starting on the 10s onwards. The number of cars in 11 triplicate by 1; the number of radios multiplied its number by 16 in a period of years; the number of telephones doubled between 115 and 10; and in 11, there was one fridge for every one, while by 1 there were 167. But, in spite the growth of all these companies and big industries, there was still one that not only did not share the boom, but was hit by it. Farm income dropped from $ billion in 11 to $1 billion in 18. This lost was due to four main causes

· The First World War had so bankrupted Europe that few Europeans could afford buy American farm produce any longer. Besides, the tariff barriers put up by the Republicans to protect American industries made Europe poorer sill so it could not afford American produce.

· Farmers were also struggling against competition from the highly efficient Canadian wheat producers. All of this came at a time when the population of the USA was decreasing, and there were fewer mouths to feed.

· Overproduction also created a huge problem in farming. From 100 to 10, while farming was doing well, more and more land was being farmed. The result was that by 10 it was producing surpluses of wheat, which nobody wanted.

· Farmers were not just a small part of the USA population. Almost half of it lived in the rural areas, mostly working on farms or in business, which sold goods to farmers. In 10, six million rural Americans were forced of the land. Many of these unskilled workers migrated into cities, where there was a little demand for their job.

That’s why I can tell that not all the Americans benefit from he boom. None farmer did benefit from it, but at least they could move to the cities and try to find any work, although they knew it was little for them they could do there. The ones that seemed to have no chance at all were the America’s Black population. They were particularly badly hit. They had always done the least skilled jobs in the rural areas. As they lost their jobs on the farms, three quarters of a million of them joined the ranks of the unemployed. The majority of farming families remained very poor in the 10s. While the rest of the country got electricity, they did not. While others bought new goods, they went without. The boom benefited a very big part of the industries and American people, but not other part. Not only the farmers were not benefited, but their income dropped $ billion in a period of years.

· How far did the USA society changed in the 10s?

1. What were the roaring 0s?

. How far was the intolerance in USA’s society?

. Why was the prohibition introduced and then later repealed?

4. How far did the role of women changed in 10s?

The roaring 0s was the name given to the 10s. The name suggests a time of riotous fun, loud music and wild enjoyment when everyone (supposedly) was having a good time. But this was not the way everybody thought. The poor farmers who were set off their land in the 10s and had to go to move to the cities did not see this decade as a glorious one. For those who joined the boom, this was a time of liberation and rebellion against traditional values. For those who did not get any advantage of the boom, it was a time of anxiety and worry.

The USA society was very intolerant, though sometimes intolerance has a bit “hidden”. In theory, individual groups lost their ethnic identity and blended together with other groups to become just “Americans”. In America’s big cities the more established immigrant groups competed for the best jobs and the best available housing. These groups tended to look down on the more recent eastern European and Italian immigrants. These in turn had nothing but contempt for Blacks and Mexicans, who were firmly at the bottom of the scale. Intolerance in the USA towards the black people was so that the whites set up an organization called the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) which used violence to intimidate black people. The Klan became a powerful political force in the 10s. Faced by such intimidation, discrimination and poverty, many blacks left the rural south and moved to Chicago and New York principally, where they had a better chance to get good jobs and good education.

In the nineteenth century, in rural areas of America there was a very strong “temperance” movement. Members of temperance movements agreed not to drink alcohol and also campaigned to get others to give up alcohol. Most of these members saw what damage alcohol did to family life. They wanted to stop that damage. There were two main movements the Anti-Saloon League and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Both movements objective was to convince and persuade the government to make a law were they prohibited alcohol. Soon after many important people backed and supported the banning of alcohol. In 11 the prohibition of alcohol became law. This prohibition did not last as long as it was thought. Prohibition was abolished in 1 because it seemed that all it had achieved was to make America more lawless, the police more corrupt, and to make gangsters rich. Besides, prohibition never had support in the urban states. Maryland, for example, never introduced. The government appointed thousands of federal agents to destroy liquor supplies and to arrest anyone breaking the law. But no US citizen paid attention to this. Some people set up their own stills to make home-made whisky, and others went to illegal bars. Prohibition of alcohol during those years was a complete failure.

Another thing that changer greatly in the 10s was the role of the woman. Before 114, middle-class woman in America had to wear very restrictive clothes and behave politely. They were expected not to wear make-up and their relationships with men were strictly controlled. They had to have a chaperone with them then they went out with a boyfriend. They were expected not to take part in sport or to smoke or drink in public. In most states, they could not vote. Most women were expected to be housewives, and very few paid jobs were open to them. All these changed in this decade. All the expectations women had to fulfill kind of disappeared. In the 10s, hey got the vote in all states. They wore more daring clothes, smoked and drunk with men, in public. And they went out with men, in cars, without a chaperone. They kissed in public. In urban areas more women took on jobs. Women were less likely to stay unhappy marriages. To sum up, all that was seen rare or impolite of the women behavior before the 10s, it was seen as something almost completely normal and usual during the roaring 0s.

To conclude, many things have changed concerning to the US society. Some of them have changed for good, like the role of the woman; others have changed for bad, like the creation of the KKK and the contempt towards the Blacks and the immigrants in general (specially the Mexicans); and others have changed but brought back to normal after a few years, like the prohibition of alcohol.

· What were the causes and consequences of the Wall Street Crash?

1. How far was speculation responsible?

. What impact did the Crash caused on the economy?

. What were the social consequences of the Wall Street Crash?

4. Why did Roosevelt win the elections in 1?

One very important cause, which led to the Wall Street stock market to collapse, was speculation. There were many new investors, as anyone could buy shares, watch their value rise, and then sell the shares later at a higher price. Many Americans decided to join the stock market. Many of these investors were speculators, who didn’t intend to keep their shares for long. They borrow money to buy some shares, then sell them again as soon as the price has risen. But not only individuals speculated. Banks themselves got involved in speculation. American banks lent $ billion for speculating in 1. But in 18, demand for shares was at an all-time high, and prices were rising at an unheard-of rate. To summarize, I can say that the Wall Street stock market crashed because at the beginning, people were confident that prices were carrying on upwards, so there were more buyers than sellers. But, later on, people started thinking that prices might stop rising, so all of a sudden there were more sellers than buyers. After that, the whole structure came down. This is exactly what happened in 1.

There were, of course, many kinds of consequences that arose from the Wall Street Crash. Of course, many people lost lots of money, but the rich were the ones who lost most. Many others borrowed money in order to buy shares which now were worthless. They were unable to pay back their loans to the banks and insurance companies, so they were bankrupted. But, the most important thing damaged or destroyed was the one thing which was crucial to the prosperity of the 10s confidence. As banks failed, people stopped trusting them and many withdrew their savings. Americans now kept their money instead of buying goods or shares. Business cut production further and laid off more workers. They reduced the wages of those who still worked for them. By 1, America was in the grip of the most important economic depression the world had ever seen. By 1 there were 14 million unemployed, and 5,000 banks had gone bankrupt. Farm prices the same as America’s international trade had been drastically reduced.

At this time, no one saved from the depression. In this way this Crash is very different from the Boom of the 10s. In the Boom, not all the Americans benefited from it (the farmers did not), but during the Crash, all the Americans were destroyed, from the richest to the poorest. But, as usual, the ones that had to scrape a meal from the leftovers of more fortunate people were the farmers. Huge numbers of them weren’t able to pay their mortgages. When sheriffs came to seize their property, bands of farmers with pitch forks and holding hangman’s nooses persuaded the sheriffs to retreat. To make matters wore for farmers, overfarming and drought in the central southern states turned millions of acres into a dust bowl and had driven farmers off their land. In the towns the story was not much better. At night the parks were full of homeless and unemployed. They queued for a cheap meal. America was suffering a period of malnutrition and starvation.

Roosevelt had won the elections in 1 mainly because Hoover, who was the actual President from the USA, the one who, six months before the Wall Street stock market collapsed, said “We in America are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before”, was also regarded as a “do nothing” President. He tried to encourage the US export trade although without much success. Even more damaging to Hoover’s reputation, was how little he tried to help those who were suffering because of the Depression. He believed that social security was not the responsibility of the Government. Hoover appeared to be heartless and indifferent to the suffering of the American people. There could not be a greater contrast to Hoover than his opponent, the Democrat candidate, Franklin D. Roosevelt, who believed strongly in “active government” trying to improve the lives of ordinary people; had plans to spend public money on getting people back to work. As Governor of New York he had already started doing this on his own state. He was not afraid to ask on advice on important issues from a wide range of experts such as factory, union leaders or economists. That’s why in 1 he won the elections and became President of the USA.

· How successful was the New Deal?

1. What was the New Deal as introduced in 1?

. How far did the character of the New Deal changed after 1?

. Why did the New Deal encounter opposition?

4. Why did unemployment persist despite the New Deal?

5. Did the fact that the New Deal did not solve unemployment meant it was a failure?

The New Deal as introduced in 1 by President Roosevelt was formed by 4 principal measures, which were supposed to help the USA get out of the depression. Those measures were to get Americans back to work, to protect their savings and their property, to provide relief for the sick, old and unemployed, and to get American industry and agriculture back on their feet.

During the first hundred days of Roosevelt’s presidency, most of the things he had promised or wanted to achieve were done successfully. He first acted on the lost of confidence the Americans had towards banks, that is why he had ordered to close every bank, and to remain closed until government officials had checked them over. Four days later, the 5,000 banks closed in 1 re-opened and Roosevelt encouraged people to put their money back into banks, and many people do so. In the Hundred Days Roosevelt sent fifteen proposals to Congress and all of them were adopted. The Federal Emergency Relief Administration set about meeting the urgent needs for the poor. The Civilian Conservation Corps was aimed at unemployed young men in particular. The Agricultural Adjustment Administration tried to take a long-term view of the problems facing the farmers. And the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) set up two important organizations The Public Works Administration which used government money to build schools, roads, dams, bridges and airports; and the National Recovery Administration which improved working conditions in industry and outlawed child labor. But not all related to the New Deal is a success. It was also meeting opposition and criticism. On the one hand, conservative forces in the Supreme Court ruled that the NIRA was unconstitutional. On the other hand, radicals were complaining that despite these measures the poor were still suffering.

Roosevelt’s New Deal was also bound to attract opposition as his Republican opponents particularly objected about the immense cost of the New Deal, which had to be paid for by the American taxpayer. Many rich Americans were not happy about paying for the New Deal through increased taxes.

Hi guys and welcome to BTT Behind the Tragedy. We have a great show for you this morning, with an interview with Mr. B. Loon and of course, as requested by our viewers, their favorite segment ‘To be or not to be?’

But firstly, lets take a look at what Aristotle sees as some of the essential elements of tragedy mimesis, peripateia, anagnorosis and catharsis. Their parents were cruel when it came to names.

Mimesis is an imitation of a real or mythical event.

Peripateia is due to the main characters hermatia, or flaw, and results in a reversal of fortune. This causes the hero to commit an ‘act of shame’. Also included in peripateia is what feeling the character goes through as a result of the reversal.

Anagnorosis is when the character admits to their fault, and sees their flaw, comes to some sort of understanding and usually dies.

And catharsis is an attempt to explain the feelings of pity and fear the audience endure during the performance. She enjoys moonlit walks on the beach and long baths….with anagnorosis. (do the stairs)

Okies, now lets find some examples from Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and Sophocles’ ‘Oedipus Rex’.

Ok, so first we will look at tragic hero or heroes. The tragic hero in Oedipus Rex is Oedipus Rex.

The tragedy of Oedipus Rex is that he commits two horrible crimes and that he ultimately fulfilled the destiny he was so desperate to avoid. This tragedy is then multiplied by the fact that he refuses to admit his guilt, which shows us his tragic flaw.

Pride. This was his flaw. This pride is also known as ‘hubris’ a foolish belief that ones powers go beyond those of authority or destiny.

In Greek tragedy the tragic situation, in which the characters find themselves, is always a situation in which man seems to be deprived of all outward help and is forced to rely entirely on himself. This is seen in Oedipus Rex when Oedipus pokes out his eyes with a brooch he feels there is nothing he can do, and there is no one to help him. What a tweaker.

In tragedy’s there is always a choice Choice is at the heart of tragedy. Oedipus chose to marry his mother, not realizing that they are related. (or so we hope!) This is what makes Greek tradgedy’s so entertaining the hero must make a choice, which -whatever it is - can never be the right choice and brings great suffering for him.

The tragic hero always comes to some sort of understanding like , oh I don’t know, that you killed your dad, married your mum, and caused a plague. Slow clap……go Oedipus!

Anyway, this indicates that the individual is responsible not only for his own fortunes, but also for the fortunes of society. Everybodys fate is connected in some way with the others.

And, of course, then there is the audiences reaction, you know, the sickening feeling in the pit of tour stomach when you found out Oedipus married his mother?!?!?! Yeah, that’s something like catharsis but also the feeling of pity that you had for him.

Another common feature of tragedy’s is the use of a chorus, as in Oedipus Rex.

In Baz Luhrmanns Romeo and Juliet, Baz uses this tragic form to create a film for modern audiences, through the use of costumes, the choice of actors, the music and various other techniques. The first thing Baz did was change the chorus into a television reporter, which obviously made it appeal to modern audiences as it is a modern medium.

Now if you will all welcome Mr. Bob Loon!

Bob, who do you think the tragic heroes where in Romeo and Juliet?

===========

Ahhhh… Romeo and Juliet. This is a little different to Oedipus, where there is one hero.

Don’t you think, Bob, that the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is obviously the death of the two tragic hero’s, but it’s not just that. Because of the chorus at the beginning we know that they will die. The tragedy is also how their death comes to be, and the circumstances surrounding their death.

============

Oh, really? You really think that the flaw of Romeo and Juliet is their immaturity that they are young and painfully ignorant. And that Baz presents their ignorance as a form of innocence to appeal to a modern audience. And by presenting Romeo and Juliet as innocent, this makes their death even more tragic for the audience?

Do you think that when Romeo takes the poison , it is because he feels that there is nothing else he can do and he has no one to help him now that Juliet is gone. And that upon discovering his body, Juliet feels the same. She is alone, with what she perceives as little choice but suicide?

==============

Yeah I agree. Many choices are made by Romeo and Juliet throughout the film, and the choices they made ultimately caused great suffering for them. Juliet chose to take the potion, Romeo chose to take the poison, and Juliet chose to commit suicide. To make this appeal to a modern audience, Juliet did this using a gun, as a gun is more commonly used nowadays than a sword.

Did you notice that unlike the original version by Shakespeare, in Baz’z production, Juliet wakes in time to see Romeo take the poison, and after he takes it, Romeo turns to find Juliet awake. This is the how Romeo and Juliet come to the horrible realization that he is dying and she was not dead. This makes their death so much more emotional and tragic, and is much more involving for the modern audience.

=============

Oh, ok, you didn’t notice it. Fair enough.

===============

Yeah, true, true. Their love affair, and death, did effected the whole society in which they lived. Because he married Juliet, Romeo would not fight Tybalt. Therefore, perhaps if he had not married her, Mercutio and ultimately Tybalt would not have died. Their love caused even more conflict among the two families. Because their two families were of such high profile, this conflict effected the whole society.

Don’t you think that, despite the audiences knowledge that Romeo and Juliet were going to die, there was the hope that they wouldn’t. I know I had a quick swipe away of tears in the darkened cinema when they did. Baz made you fall in love with the two tragic heroes, which made it all the harder to let them go.

===============

What was that? You have one last thing to say?

================

Oh thanks! I got them at the clothing pool. Thanks for joining us Mr. B. Loon. Alright we just have time to play ‘to be or not to be’.

Our victims this week are Oeidipus and his mum. Should they be together? Is it true love? To be or not to be?

NOT TO BE! Reason why they shouldn’t be together (well I think this is obvious) She wears brooches. Oh, right, and she’s his MOTHER!

Thanks for joining us guys! See ya next week, and say hi to ya dad for me.

In the begining there was darkness. Then there was light. Then there was consciousness. Then there were questions and then there was religion. Why are we? Where do we come from? Why does the world and nature act as it does? What happens when we die.

Religion tended to the answer to all these questions with the stories of gods and godesses and other supernatural forces that were beyond the understanding of humans. Where as science seems able to explain everything with prof and evidence right before your eyes.

Science deals with subject matter and account for civilizations while religion is concered with the civilization, but looks at its spiritulisation and faith. As the scientists looks at the building, materials and whereas religion is not focusing on these physical components.

This also gives birth to the question that whether science is able to explain all or whether religion is able to explain all aspects of life?science does seem to explain all.

Help with essay on Science vs Religion

cheap essay writing service

It is because of the fact that science has enabled humans to fly, explore the depths of the oceans, walk on the moon. It makes the life of humans easier than before with lots of facilities.

Howerver, strong and almost perfect the view of science is in todays society it cannot cover the entire spectrum of the human experiences. Nor does it explain some of the striking similarities present in the various religions of the earth.

There have been many clashes between religion and science in history. Some past leaders were used to imprisoned scientists. Now much has changed. People asks for the facts and figures, but spiritualisation, your character building is not the things provided by science. So, science and religion are different in the sense of facts and faith.

These both are important for our lives, because you cannot write on walls without pens and brains. Pens are provided by the science and the brain and satisfaction by religion. Therefore, there should be no conflict between them. In my opinion religion and science can co-exist in the sense of walking on their separate paths side by side. We need both as the religion takecare of mans spiritual life and science take care of mans comfort

The poems “The Ice-Floes”, “T-bar”, and “Spruce” have distinctly Canadian features as shown by the settings they use and in their spirit.

The poem The Ice-Floes is Canadian in spirit because the characters in the poem are sealing on the ocean, and this was a Canadian traditional way of life back in the older days. “The Ice-Floes” is Canadian by the setting because it is in a northern area, with lots of ice, and snow. “For food beneath that frozen sea”, and “Of a March night and north winds cold” tells us that they are in an icy climate. Many people think of Canada when they think of the Great White North, such as this.

Skiing is a popular Canadian winter pastime. It is spiritually Canadian because the poem “T-bar” is about people skiing. The poem takes place in a setting that is common in Canada the mountains and snow. “In twos they move slow motion up the steep incision in the mountain” tell us that this poem takes place on a steep mountain, which is very common in Canada.

“Spruce” is Canadian by spirit because spruce trees are native to the northern western hemisphere and because salmon is a very spiritual food to the native peoples of our land. The quote “Were filled with the last Salmon run” hints of Canada. It is Canadian by setting as the author describes “blue as the blue mountains from where they came”, and Canada is known for nice Blue Mountains.

Change is often unsettling, often challenging and can be depicted in many ways. Change can take many forms and have varying affects on different people and the way they see themselves. Change is seen differently in the eyes of varying people; perspectives change as we interpret things differently and whether the change is positive or negative. Change is also constant and hard to endure as we live out our lives with a forever-changing environment; nothing is the same as it once was.

Micheal Lueig’s cartoon, “The 6 ages of man”, shows a strong message of negative change in ones-self, which alters the persona’s view towards change. The cartoon begins with a figure standing proud and tall, with secreted lines of joy and excitement, combining these techniques together portrays a person who is happy and excited about breaking free from his fears and barriers to his normal life. He begins his epic journey of change, as the figure is seen leaving through an open door into a new day, a new world waiting to be explored by the eager mind.

The last few cells are the complete contrast to that of the first in that he now walks slouched with a long, sad face, showing that he is displeased about the resultant of his efforts of change. He has experienced what change can offer to him, but obviously not enjoyed it showing he has experienced a negative change. Also dots trace his path from the door representing his speedy retreat from the open door reiterating that he doesn’t like the new world. He is scared of the difference between the new world, and that of the one he has lived for his past, a life with no direction, loneliness, like “aimless patterns in the dirt” also shown in the poem from Gwen Harwood, “In The Park”. This cartoon depicts the possibility of negative changes that can be chosen or experienced, also that the change experienced is might not always turn out the way you want it to.

The film “Finding Forrester” also portrays a solid definition of forced personnel change with a positive outcome through others. In that through William’s fog of confusion, and darkness of hopelessness, Jamal was there to open the door for William and show him the light. This forced change can best be shown in the “Yankee Stadium” scene. William’s hesitation to this outing is obvious as he bides his time; also he wears clothing that suggests that he is trying to hide from the public.

Cheap College Papers on Change

essay writing service

In Jamal’s attempts to confront William, Jamal is denied and is shrugged off as if to say “you left me here alone, go away” but William soon realises that it wasn’t Jamal’s fault and he follows. This small event shows the start of a positive change in the self encased William Forrester. He begins to trust and appreciate Jamal’s friendship.

As they enter the empty stadium, personified as Forrester’s dark, and desolate life. They are led by torchlight through a field shrouded in darkness, to emphasis Forrester’s loneliness; they reach the centre mound, at the centre of his own peril. As the camera circles around William, and his life, Jamal understands William’s want for a secluded life. He sees how much pain and guilt he had endured after his brothers’ death, and how he punished himself for that tragedy. Jamal has seen the inner motives from Forrester, and ultimately sees that he is a normal person, only who has fenced themselves in with such bottled up emotion.

Through this learning experience for both Jamal and William, William’s ‘hermit’ life had been cut short, so to speak, due to Jamal helping Forrester to open the door into the light of a new world and leading William from his haze of loneliness and hopelessness.

Gwen Harwood’s poem “The Glass Jar” taps into tradition and uses religious symbols to achieve the message of an induced change, which is obviously hard for this child to endure as he is blocked from his comforter. The line ‘the sons disciples’ shows that the sunrays raining onto the earth are the Disciples of Christ spreading light and wisdom, linking to the religious symbolism related to this poem.

As this young boy sleeps, he dreams of evil and monsters that quickly disrupts him. In tears, he runs though the house to ‘the last clearing he dare not pass’, which is personified as his mother’s bedroom, where he seeks guidance. But instead of a welcome he sees ‘his comforter in his rival’s fast embrace’. The rival being his father, who is executing ‘violence’ onto his mother and in this moment of disgust, he is left to face his fears alone, with no help. With this sight in his immediate consciousness he runs ‘Back to bed, to dreams far worse’ where he dreams of ‘a ring of skeletons’ dancing around him and his rival ‘holding fiddle and bow’ plays the tune to which they dance. The tune being that of “The Dance Macabre” - “The Death Dance”. Showing that there is immense amount of grief, competition between him and his father, and immediate hatred, shrouded onto his father, his attempts at a refuge denied, the rival availing to his horror.

As the morning approaches he has woken as a new person, suggesting that he has been reborn a renaissance of life. The boy waking a pure, cleansed person shows the continuing of the religious symbolism. He has rid himself of the hatred towards his father and feels clean, as he has also rid himself of the evils that possessed him through the night.

These texts all have the similar meaning in that they have shown change through a forced traumatic experience. This changes them for the better or worse. In that they have either regretted or rejoiced their experience of the changed endured, whether it be hard or easy.

Miroslav Holub’s poem “The Door” also shows change, by trying to force the reader to take a chance and accept the consequences that could be involved with moving forward. The line ‘Go and open the door’ suggests that there is no option and that you are ordered to do so. The persona is forced to walk through the door, this can also been scene in the stadium scene of “Finding Forrester” as Forrester is forced by Jamal to leave his home to go to the stadium. Throughout the poem he implores the reader to consider many different possibilities that may lie on the other side of the door. ‘Maybe there is a tree, a wood, a magic city’

The lines ‘if there’s a fog, it will clear’, ‘the darkness ticking’ ‘hollow wind’ all can be directly linked to the stadium scene in “Finding Forrester”. Where the fog represents the sea of faces where he can’t see his direction, the darkness is William’s confusion as he doesn’t know what is happening and how to respond to the chaos that is occurring around him, and the hollow wind is personified as the cold sharp footsteps of people as they pass his vantage point of safety. The clearing of the fog occurs when Jamal leads William through the door and into the light of a new world.

All these chosen texts have further helped me to understand the meaning of change, as they all have displayed change from a different perspective and have shown that change can be good or bad and can also have the different affects on people. Also showing that change is constant in that no matter what we do, change will have either a positive or negative affect on our actions and, in some cases, making it hard to endure. Subconsciously showing that change can be often unsettling, often challenging…

Although it regards human existence as unexplainable, Waiting for Godot is primarily about hope. The play revolves around Vladimir and Estragon and their pitiful wait for hope to arrive. At various times during the play, hope is constructed as a form of healing. The subject of the play quickly becomes an example of how to pass the time in a situation, which offers no hope.

Two men, Vladimir and Estragon, meet near a tree. They converse on various topics and reveal that they are waiting there for a man named Godot. While they wait, two other men enter. Pozzo is on his way to the market to sell his slave, Lucky. He pauses for a while to converse with Vladimir and Estragon. Lucky entertains them by dancing and thinking, and Pozzo and Lucky leave.

After Pozzo and Lucky leave, a boy enters and tells Vladimir that he is a messenger from Godot. He tells Vladimir that Godot will not be coming tonight, but that he will surely come tomorrow. Vladimir asks him some questions about Godot and the boy departs. After his departure, Vladimir and Estragon decide to leave.

The next night, Vladimir and Estragon again meet near the tree to wait for Godot. Lucky and Pozzo enter again, but this time Pozzo is blind and Lucky is dumb. Pozzo does not remember meeting the two men the night before. They leave and Vladimir and Estragon continue to wait.

Shortly after, the boy enters and once again tells Vladimir that Godot will not be coming. He insists that he did not speak to Vladimir yesterday. After he leaves, Estragon and Vladimir decide to leave, but they do not move as the curtain falls, ending the play.

The play, Waiting For Godot is centered around Estragon and Vladimir, who are waiting for Mr. Godot. They know little about him. Estragon admits himself that he may never recognize Mr. Godot, Personally I wouldnt know him if I ever saw him. (p.). Estragon also remarks, … we hardly know him. (P.), which illustrates to an audience that the identity of Mr. Godot is irrelevant, as little information is ever given throughout the play about this hard to define mystery man. A very important element of the play is the act of waiting for someone or something that never arrives. We find it natural to speculate on the identity of Godot because of our excessive need to find answers to questions.

There are many interpretations for the characters of Becketts play. The two men, Estragon and Vladimir may be everyman and his conscience. Estragon is less confident and at one moment is ready to hang himself. Vladimir is more hopeful, and more even in temperament. Pozzo seems to be the evil master. However he could be Godot, or an evil living form of Godot. The most obvious interpretation of Godot is that he is God.

This is, quite obviously, a story that is almost completely metaphorical. The plot and the characters are meaningless; it is only in what they represent that we find meaning. Estragon and Vladimir represent all of humanity. They cannot stand to be together, and yet cannot bear to be apart. There is no logic, or any reason for any of the things they do. They are comic figures, and yet once in a while they will utter something thoughtful. They are treated cruelly by others, and treat others cruelly. And yet, they are basically good. They await the coming of Godot. Godot is God. He promises to come back each day, however he fails in his promises, and the world goes on.

The theme of Godot is as follows; humanity needs to stop waiting for God to manifest himself and must stop trying to discover the meaning of life. The truth, that life is meaningless, is too hard for us to deal with. Therefore, we believe in our own Godot, who will someday save us. So why should we even live? Why not hang ourselves like Vladimir and Estragon thought of doing? We stay alive because life is meaningful. But we make the meaning. Once we stop waiting for a grand meaning to manifest itself, and start living life, the meaning of life will become apparent. The Irish critic Vivian Mercier said it best when he called Waiting for Godot a play in which nothing happens, twice.

Ethics and Social Responsibility in

International Business

Part I Introduction

As more and more firms engage in international business, the world economy is quickly becoming an interdependent system. The trend of expanding internationally will make more and more corporations to move their manufactures and branch offices from domestic market to foreign market. Multinational corporations have been the main agents of globalization. In order to boost the development of the global economy, most trade regulations and accountabilities have also been decreased than before. Companies have paid most attention to their profitability and productivity, creating the competitiveness is the main business goal of most corporations. However the ethics and social responsibility are very important issues they cannot ignore. The ethical perspective has been moving more and more to the forefront of social thought. And it is becoming a popular topic in international business today.

People in business know that their work is absolutely central to society. And they recognize that a critical of good business is not only according to its revenues and profitability, but they also care about its business ethics and social responsibility. In addition to global consumers, do they destroy the environment? Do they mislead their customers in sales promotion? Do they provide the safety workplace to their employees? And do they cheat their investors? Many issues fall under the rubric of business ethics. Companies, no matter what shape or size, have a considerable social, environmental and economic impact on the communities in which they operate. They have to be responsible for the environment, customers, employees and investors. It is an indispensable and important role to play in the process of international business.

Why should the international business take ethical behavior and social responsibility? It¡¯s important for business success.

¡¤ Firstly, corporate reputation is a key determination of future business success. Good reputation is certainly an assets for any company, it looks like brand equity, it is built up over years and take years to repair, but can be destroyed overnight. If a good company does bad things, it may not illegal, but it is unethical, it will lose its business, lose its customers and consequently lose profits and capital support. People will distrust the business. ¡°A bad reputation is like a hangover. It takes a while to get rid of, and it makes everything else hurt.¡± Said by James Preston, Former CEO of Avon.1

¡¤ Secondly, as the character of the economy continues to shift towards the global production and trade of intangible services, using intangible assets, so public trust will become more important. Trust is vital to most exchanges between buyers and sellers. As the international division of labor expands, we will buy more goods by telephone or over the Internet and take it on trust that the people on the other end of the line will supply what we have paid for. Knowledge-intensive products, akin to specialist services, are difficult to test in advance. You cannot test-drive a divorce lawyer. So corporate brands can be trusted that will become ever more important.

¡¤ Thirdly, as the global economy becomes more integrated, more businesses will find themselves facing ethical dilemmas. How to balance the profit and social responsibility? How to deal with the ethical issues? Drawn to low-cost production sites around the world, they may well, as with Nike, find themselves facing angry, affluent consumers in their domestic markets, unhappy with their labor practices. The immediacy and power of modern communications makes it easier for critics to expose apparent double standards. Only companies with clear, consistent standards will avoid these pitfalls.

Part II Competition and Ethics

Sometime, competition and ethics sounds as incompatible. How to balance them is a major problem most companies have to face. In today¡¯s global economy, competition has become more intensively than ever before. Businesses operate in a competitive world where performance is everything. They are trying their best to find an effective chance to lower the cost and enhance its profit. The opportunity for unethical behavior is high. Also some companies get away with acting unethical. Nevertheless, most of companies around the world increasingly understand that reaching their business objectives can be compatible with ethics concern. For instance, since 10, McDonalds has now purchased more than $4 billion worth of products made from recycled materials. On a global basis, McDonalds has reduced packaging by 00,000 tons by redesigning items including straws, napkins, cups, fry cartons, and other packaging items. It¡¯s embracing environmental management as a core business strategy. In contrast, some companies don¡¯t concern the ethical issues, such as the quality of the product, and the safety and health of their employees, etc. Profitability is becoming their only concern. For example, in China, in order to lower the production cost, some spring water factories have reused the container without any antisepsis. Its unethical behavior has disserved the health of the consumers. Another case in China is ¡° import garbage¡±. In recent year, the Chinese customs has checked about 00 tons garbage that has imported from the Unite State, include waste computer, cosmetic product, construction garbage and some of living garbage. Also they found out some living garbage has been put into the new machine that has been import together. Most of this garbage can not recycling, it is not good for the environment and people health. In order to gain the profit, the importers didn¡¯t care this unethical behavior. In addition, at same time, the unethical behavior will make them lose their customers and public trust. It¡¯s not a good strategy for the international business.

In deed, most companies can balance the competition and ethics very well. Good business and good ethics are not a contradiction in terms. ¡° ¡®Ethics¡¯ is good business. It makes for better staff and a more valuable goodwill, which all goes to strengthening the company¡¯s competitive edge in the ling run.¡± Mentioned by Hong Kong Ethics Development Center document.4We live in a knowledge-driven economy, in which companies increasingly compete on their ability to create new products and processes. The values like honesty, trust and respect are having significant impact for many corporate. The ethical behavior not only increases long term earning; it also enables business to plan ahead and anticipate social needs and cultural changes that require the firm or its product to evolve. Aside from generating considerable public goodwill, evidence shows that ethical behavior can also assist companies to build links with public policy makers, motivate and involve employees, build corporate reputation and enhance competitiveness.

Part III Four Typical Confronts of Social Responsibility in International Business

Environment

¡°We destroy the beauty of the country side because the inappropriate splendors of nature have no economic value.¡±5 With the fast growing economy in the last decade, our earth has been damaged by irresponsible business activities. Although regulations to redress the balance have increased exponentially since the 170s, there was still plenty of scope for unethical companies to try to gain short-term advantage over their more principled and strategically driven competitors by holding back on often expensive investments that would help protect and sustain the environment. Controlling pollution¡ÂȘthe transmission of harmful substances into the environments is a significant challenge to contemporary international business. The greatest problems facing governments and business are focus on three areas air, water, and land pollution.

¡¤ Air Pollution

Air pollution results when several factors converge to lower air quality. Carbon monoxide emitted by automobiles contributes to air pollution, as do smoke and other chemicals from manufacturing plants. Air quality is usually worst in certain geographic locations, such as the Denver area and the Los Angeles basin, where pollutants tend to get trapped in the atmosphere. Controlling air pollution is a vital issue of corporate social responsibility. Under new laws, many companies must now install special devices to limited pollutants that they expel into the air, but some companies still hold back this cost to take the irresponsible behaviors. Specially, in underdeveloped country, companies opened manufacture there, but they didn¡¯t care the environment protection of local areas. The multinational corporation still should play a leading role in ensuring that the greening of business is pursued in developing countries. In practice, this means that their environmental policy makes more efficient use of natural resources, minimizes emissions, and contributes to environmental rehabilitation.

¡¤ Water Pollution

Water becomes polluted primarily from chemical and waste dumpling. For years, both businesses and cities dumped waste into rivers, streams, and lakes with little regard for the consequences. Cleveland¡¯s Cuyahoga River was once so polluted that it burst into flames one hot summer day. After an oil spill in 14, a Houston shipping channel burned for days.6 Thanks to new legislation and increased awareness, water quality in many areas is improving. However, in many less- developed nations, there are some companies that still routinely dumped the waste byproduct into lake, river, and steams.

Istanbul, March 6, 16 (GP) - The multinational oil company Shell has systematically polluted a huge underground reserve of drinkable water in an aquifer near the city of Diyarbakir in Southeast Turkey where up to two million people live, Internal Shell documents leaked to Greenpeace and released today show that Shell has pumped 487.5 million barrels of production water contaminated with crude oil, solvents and other chemicals into the Midyat aquifer between 17 and 14. 7Shell experts are quoted in reports as saying that the solution is the injection of the contaminated water into the Mardin oil reservoir, where the water comes from and which is much deeper than the Midyat aquifer. The documents reveal money was allocated to decreasing the amount of production water injected by half by the end of 15. However, this was cancelled and most of the money clawed back before Shell sold the operation to the international operating company, Perenco. One memo, dated December 15 states It is unfortunate to see a change of priorities towards maximizing cash before divestment by sacrificing environmental targets. The Shell Midyat Adsorption Study said that an additional 17. million barrels of polluted water would be injected into the aquifer by the end of 001.8 Greenpeace reveal that in the worst case the aquifer could be polluted up to 14-0 km away from the well by the year 006 and that by 00-060 it will be under the City of Diyarbakir with aquifer contamination for 100-00 years. Many of the Shell documents leaked to Greenpeace confirm that Shell managers knew that the injection into the aquifer is against European Union and Turkish environmental regulations. Pumping polluted water into the aquifer must stop at once, said Berto Hullu of the Greenpeace Mediterranean Office in Istanbul. This practice will effect the lives of future generations in and around Diyarbakir who, at some time in the future, will probably have to get drinkable water from remote areas. Shell must accept permanent responsibility for the legacy they have left the people of Turkey. Paul Horsman, Greenpeace International¡¯s Oil Campaigner, said in Istanbul ¡°The double standards and the non-existent ethics of Shell are now clear to everybody. Shell and Perenco are just keen to make money at the expense of the environment and the people of Turkey. Shell would have never injected polluted water into aquifers in Britain or The Netherlands.¡± In this case, Shell was more interest in profit than environments. The well-established environment has been damaged by this irresponsible behavior. Also the damaged environment will cost more money to repair, it also will affect the health of the Diyarbakir people. On the other hand, Shell¡¯s public reputation will be damaged with this irresponsible behavior. It will lose more value which it can¡¯t account.

¡¤ Land Pollution

An especially controversial problem in land pollution is toxic waste disposal; toxic wastes are dangerous chemical or radioactive byproducts of manufacturing processing. Altogether, U.S manufacturers produce between 40 and 60 million tons of such material each year.10As a rule, toxic waste can be neither destroyed nor processed into harm less material; it must be store. Very few people have store toxic waste in their back yards. Also some of them have been exported to developing or underdeveloped country. They typical case as I mentioned above, China has received many toxic waste garbage from U.S in recent year. There are some Chinese importers has interest profit more than environment issues, the unethical trade has seriously polluted the environment of China.
