Cheap Custom Essays on Orpheus and Eurydice

In the tragic story of Orpheus and Eurydice there is an important lesson to be learned about love. Humans have preconceived notions that love can conquer all, including a tragedy such as death. After a tragic situation where a loved one has been involved it is typical for one to dwell on the past and think about how things could have been different. However, it is unhealthy to become obsessed with this idea; people need to learn how to let go and move on, in order to learn a happy healthy life.

When Orpheus' wife Eurydice died he was so devastated that he became delusional. He actually believed he could bring her back, and live happily ever after by charming the king and queen of Hades with his sad serenade. This is an example of a great human flaw; as humans, we are unable to accept death, especially when it involves someone so young. It is natural to mourn for someone, but it is unhealthy to stay in the first stage of mourning for the rest of your life. People need to learn how to deal with and to accept death as a natural process. Orpheus believed that he could bring Eurydice back form Hades and by doing so he set himself up for a grave disappointment. Even though the king and queen of Hades made a deal with Orpheus, it was quite clear that Eurydice was not going to make it back to the world of the living, because that is not the way life works. As a result, Orpheus was forced to go through the agony of losing Eurydice all over again. Orpheus was never able to get over Eurydice, and, he became a celibate priest and died a tragic death of his own. This teaches us that it is important to love, learn, and let go, because if we don't, we will live the rest of our lives in misery
